Weddings Trends for 2023
The new year of unique and exciting trends in weddings!

What’s trending in weddings for 2023
The new year will introduce us to an abundance of unique and exciting trends in weddings! From classic bridal styles, Grace-Kelly inspired looks, to embroidered fashion details. Destination wedding weekend's are wild and creative with custom itineraries, nightly themed, kick-back style parties, BBQ's, and embracing the local cuisine with hibiscus infused margaritas, (think Viva Magenta!) is all the rage this year. It's all about color, bolder themes with couples adopting brighter palettes that are sure to make a statement. Isn’t that what it’s all about?
Bold Colors
The highly anticipated wait of Pantone’s color of the year is finally over. Pantone revealed that “Viva Magenta,” will take center stage as the 2023 color of the year and we couldn’t be happier! In Mexico, where magenta, fuchsia, and especially rose aka,“Rosa Mexicano” rules, we’re sure Pantone consulted with our beautiful destination and the bountiful bougainvillea’s that grow wildly in our idyllic area for its inspiration! “Viva Mexico!”

Another color for 2023 that we’re wild about is Pantone’s “Classic Green.” When you live and work in a destination that is the cornucopia of tropical deliciousness, with jungle vibes fit for the likes of Tarzan, you’ll know you’ll use it effortlessly in your color palette. We also predict the use of deep reds, which is analogous to the color magenta on the color wheel, to be big in 2023, along with oranges, and purples, combined with softer colors like light pinks, blues, and greens.

Colorful Dresses
We’ll see brides become more adventurous this year, looking for “fine art,” when shopping for wedding dresses. They’ll be making detours from the traditional palette of white, ivory, and nude wedding dresses, that we’ve seen for decades, by seeking out bold floral patterns for their wedding gowns, complementing their garden, jungle or seaside venue. Designers such as Monique Lhuillier, Ines de Santo, Marchesa, are embracing stunning works of art, florals, and hand-painted designs in their collections, inspired by van Gogh, Monet, and Matisse.

Embroidered Fashion Statements
Wear one’s heart on one’s sleeve? Showing emotions on your wedding dress and accessories have been gaining momentum. This year will bring more heartfelt messages either on veils, dresses, or yes, your sleeves. Add some wow! Wear your vows!

Retro Themes
In terms of themes, we predict a continued interest in vintage and boho style. Retro-inspired weddings will be bold and beautiful. Anxious to implement a nostalgic, retro theme, into one of our weddings. I’m an absolute lover of mixing elements! Whether we’re mixing chairs, tables, florals, textiles and textures, it’s all about owning your look! Emphasize classic décor, furnishings, while incorporating custom designs and statement pieces for a timeless, sentimental event.
Maximalism
In 2023, we’ll see more designers going bolder and taking risks by blending materials and textures. We'll also see that trending in wedding stationery suites. The MaLou design group is obsessed with combining different textures in its weddings. It’s a signature that you’ll see in every wedding. From creating custom runners, napkins, and menus, mixing velvets, linen, and paper, to scouting and sourcing a variety of materials for stationery and other elements, creativity and the ability to craft is what makes a look distinct.
Micro Weddings
We expect to see more mini weddings, where couples host intimate gatherings of family and close friends. Destination elopements will continue to be popular in tropical destinations.
Sustainable Events
Couples are increasingly turning to sustainable practices for their wedding events, such as using locally-sourced food and flowers, choosing venues with a focus on eco-friendly practices, and repurposing décor elements and furniture. The Yucatan peninsula is becoming more and more eco-conscience about waste and how it can affect the area, its wildlife, and its Cenotes.
Wedding trends come and go but ones that we’ll begin to see in 2023 and are here to stay, are bold, beautiful, and for the fearless that know what they want. They are eclectic and not afraid to share their emotions. They will come with their carefully compiled music playlists. They’ll say no to garter and bouquet tosses, and most will skip traditional cake cutting. Some things that will never change is plenty of photo-taking, dancing, signature cocktails, and long wild, wedding weekends, shared by family and friends.
